Cookies for Breakfast…a New Year’s Diet

One of the perks of being a grown-up is giving yourself permission to indulge in some childhood fantasies. And judging how many adults love my middle-grade Zephyr Stone novels, I’d say there’s a fair population of those in touch with their inner younger selves!

Now, when the holidays have transformed your home into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, and so many delicious goodies are hanging around the kitchen and taking up space in your mind and in your belly, do you find yourself eating…as your adult-side might say…inappropriately? As in cookies for breakfast? Actually, I don’t think inappropriate is appropriate for this once-a-year yum-fest. After all, we don’t want those treats to go stale. I know, I know—I can hear you saying, “That’s what the freezer’s for!” But—in my case and perhaps yours—the freezer is still packed with Thanksgiving leftovers. So, what’s to do? Eat them! (The recently-baked confections, I mean.) Eat them whenever the mood strikes. Just don’t forget to add something more traditionally “healthy” along the way:

Cookies for breakfast,

Pudding for brunch,

Cupcakes and gingerbread

And brownies for lunch.

Eggnog for tea time

—I’m not getting thinner—

Need to eat better, so…

Fruit cake for dinner!
