About the Author
Kathryn Louise Wood was born in Washington, North Carolina and has deep ancestral roots in her home state, stretching back to the 17th century. She received her BS in Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia and, as a life-long learner and wearer of multiple hats, has worked as a teacher, social worker, television re-enactment actress, nationally certified massage therapist, writer, and award-winning photographic artist.
Kate and her husband live in the lovely, historic town of Edenton, North Carolina, nestled on the shores of the Albemarle Sound. There, they share their quirky, little 1890s home, Buttercup Cottage, with their dogs and the memories of loved ones with whom they have shared their lives.
Writing has been a natural part of Kate’s life since she was a child. It was always her favorite subject in school, from her first science fiction story in third grade to her creative writing courses in college, but it wasn’t until her children were grown that she decided to share her love of writing with the world at large. Kate is delighted that Blue Ink Press is the publisher of her first book for Middle Grade readers, Zephyr Stone and the Moon Mist Ghost.
Kate is also an avid reader and always has a stack of books on her bedside table (and in her e-reader) ready to dip into. She finds reading just before sleep is the perfect bridge between the reality of the waking world and the wonder-world of dreams. And her favorite town hangout? The public library, of course!
And when she isn’t writing (or reading,) Kate loves to bake! Check out her Facebook page: Kate’s Giving Plate for some great recipes.
Kate still loves to “play dress-up,” and had a blast impersonating “Rita Skeeter” from the Harry Potter book series when her local library, Shepard-Pruden Memorial, held its award-winning “Harry Potter Extravaganza.”
